Presented by Front Porch Arts Collective

    Written by Katori Hall

A gripping reimagination of events the night before the assassination of the civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. On April 3, 1968, after delivering one of his most memorable speeches, an exhausted Dr. King retires to his room at the Lorraine Motel while a storm rages outside. When a mysterious stranger arrives with some surprising news, King is forced to confront his destiny and his legacy to his people.

“Even before the first flash of lightning—and there will be plenty of that before evening’s end—an ominous electricity crackles through the opening moments of THE MOUNTAINTOP.”
    —The New York Times

“[THE MOUNTAINTOP] crackles with theatricality and a humanity more moving than sainthood.”
    —Newsday (NY)

“…as audacious as it is inventive…[a] thrilling, wild, provocative flight of magical realism…Hall keeps her audience guessing…This is playwriting without a net, a defiant poke in the eye of all historical conventions and political correctness…The King that is left after Hall’s humanization project is somehow more real and urgent and whole.”

  • From Rails to Trails - Boston Premiere Documentary Screening
    Tuesday, October 14, 2025 at 5:30pm

Sponsored by HubLuv and The Lawrence & Lillian Solomon Foundation

From Rails to Trails is a powerful new documentary tracing the 60-year fight to transform abandoned railroads into public trails. What began as a grassroots dream has become a national movement: today, the U.S. boasts more than 26,000 miles of multi-use paths where trains once ran.

Narrated by Edward Norton, the film uncovers the legal battles, political clashes, and community triumphs that shaped the rails-to-trails revolution—from small-town showdowns to landmark Supreme Court cases. Along the way, it highlights the visionaries and everyday citizens who turned forgotten railways into vibrant spaces for walking, biking, and recreation.

Directed and produced by Dan Protess and executive produced by Peter Harnik, the documentary features interviews with Pete Buttigieg, Tommy Thompson, and Howard Dean.

Don’t miss this opportunity to get a sneak preview of From Rails to Trails in advance of its public television premiere, and get a behind-the-scenes look from the film’s Director and Executive Producer.
